Azalea Cottage

This detached cottage is steeped in history and part of the original gentleman’s residence, Craghead. Azalea Cottage has its own cottage garden with mature shrubs such as Azalea and Rhodedendra.  The private cottage garden is a wonderful spot to enjoy  sunny days. You can park alongside the cottage. The Lodge has been totally renovated with double glazed windows, slate floors and gas central heating. Access is from the cottage garden down a flight of ancient slate steps where a ‘stable’ door leads into the lounge / dining room with period fireplace.

Lounge/Diner Period Fireplace, dining table and chairs and a slate floor. The many sash style windows bathe this room in natural light. TV with digital and Freesat channels.

Kitchen From the lounge a few steps lead to the kitchen on the mezzanine level. The kitchen has possibly everything you could wish for during your visit. Electric hob and oven, dish washer, washer drier, and fridge freezer list amongst the many facilities that have been provided. The kitchen also has a bistro table with high chairs and the kitchen windows look two ways towards  Lake Windermere and the garden which is frequented by many species of garden birds.

Bedroom A short flight of stairs leads up to the bedroom with roof light and west facing window. This cosy room with feature ceiling is fully fitted with king size bed, digital flat screen TV, fitted wardrobe etc.

Bathroom Off the bedroom is a fully tiled bathroom  with wc, basin, and powerful shower above the bath. There is constant hot water throughout the cottage.

Parking. Park within the grounds of the property with easy access to the entrance.

Heating. The house has full gas central heating and double glazing.

Wi Fi. Installed.

Outside. There is a secluded courtyard with the original slate slabs and garden furniture.

The public bus service passes the property giving access to Langdale, Hawkshead and beyond. The path immediately adjacent to Todd Crag House leads onto Todd Crag itself, the Loughrigg fells and beyond. Ambleside is a short walk away making this cottage an ideal spot for those who wish to ‘park and walk’.

Ambleside is only 10 minutes’ walk from the cottage where you will find restaurants, pubs, cinema and many specialist shops. This village has almost everything. Rather than dine out many of our visitors take advantage of the well-equipped kitchen, and enjoy an early evening aperitif in the garden listening to the birdsong.

The cottage is only 100 metres from the River Brathay along which you can stroll towards Brathay Church from where you can sometimes hear the peels of the bells. Clappersgate offers so much!
